Bayern Munich's top scorer Robert Lewandowski scored twice as the German champions demolished Hoffenheim 4-0 on Saturday to stay a point clear of Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga table.

After testing positive for COVID-19 earlier this week, Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann was sent in isolation, but he set up a 'analysis centre' in his home kitchen and passed on orders to his staff.

Bayern nevertheless managed to score a flurry of goals thanks to the setup. Bayern assistant coach Dino Topmoeller remarked, "The squad played outstanding football, especially in the first 30 minutes." "In the end, it was a well-deserved victory.”

After nine games, no other Bundesliga club has ever scored 33 goals. The Bavarians struck again on the half-hour mark, with Lewandowski brilliantly hammering home a shot from 20 meters to bring his league season record to ten goals.

The Pole, who had earlier in the game squandered a handful of simple chances, has already scored 26 goals in 34 league appearances in 2021, only six short of Gerd Mueller's all-time Bundesliga record of 36 goals established in 1972.

Bayern's success was clinched late on by goals from substitute Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Kingsley Coman, putting them one point ahead of Dortmund. It was Topmoeller's second win as Nagelmsnan's replacement this week.

Joshuma Kimmich, a midfielder, raised some eyebrows after the game when he confirmed he had not yet been vaccinated and had no plans to do so in the foreseeable future.
